Men’s Captain’s Day 2017

Paul McDonagh hosted his Captains Prize on Saturday 1st July and the large turnout enjoyed a fine days golf. The Captain, in his address, thanked all the members and visitors for coming out to celebrate his day, all the various Club officers and committees, the course managers and Greenkeepers and congratulated all the winners on the day.

Brendan Cox was the leader after 18 holes with a 66, Patrick Callaghan was on 67, one ahead of John Corcoran, James Dooney and Sean Keating. 9 potential winners contested the addition nine holes in the evening. It was a very tight affair in the final group with no less than 7 birdies among the three ball. A few holes into the final round it was clear that John Corcoran was going to be crowned champion unless disaster struck and even a superb final round of 33 gross from Patrick Callaghan was no match for Johns 26 nett.

The full list of winners were as follows:  1st: John Corcoran.  2nd: Patrick Callaghan.  Gross: Brendan Cox.  3rd: Sean Keating.  Leading Qualifier: James Dooney.  Past Captain: Gerry Cooney.  1st 9: Christy McCann.  2nd 9: Adrian O’Donoghue.  3rd 9: Patrick Neilan.  Visitor: Richard Riddett.  Junior: Liam Freeman.  The Captains Prize to the Ladies was won by Catherine Johnston.
